Fire Extinguisher Servicing

Fire extinguisher servicing is essential and is documented in BS 5306-3. It is vital that extinguishers work when they are needed. The British Standards – which provide guidelines for fire safety – state that annual maintenance of fire protection equipment, including fire extinguishers must be carried out by a competent person.

Fire extinguishers require an annual inspection from a competent person to British Standard 5306 Part 3.

Once the technician has completed the service they will discuss any further work required with you on the day.

What our fire extinguisher service includes

Depending on the type of fire extinguisher you have, our engineers will generally carry out the following:

• Checking every part of the fire extinguisher for wear or damage, this includes: safety devices, valves, operating mechanisms and gauges.

• Checking for any signs of corrosion or damage.

• Checking and where needed, replacing the anti-tamper tags

• Checking that the weight of the fire extinguisher is within the appropriate range.

• Pressure checking the gauge to ensure it operates and is giving an accurate pressure reading. 

• Replacement Gauge Sticker.

• Producing a ‘Certificate of inspection’, a legal document showing that an annual test has been carried out on the fire extinguishers, this document will be kept and stored by both the engineers and yourself to ensure you are complying with regulations.
